Highway Landscaping, October 2015

Lanyonscapes recently embarked on a large landscaping project near Rockhampton, QLD.

Part of the project involved the planting of almost 9,000 Lomandra hystrix (green mat-rush) alongside the highway.

First, 100mm topsoil was applied to provide a suitable growth medium. Jute mat was then laid over the topsoil. Jute mat is a light-grade erosion control matting used to stabilise topsoil and establish plant growth.

Jute Mat is ideal for the stabilisation of low-flow drainage lines, and assisting grass establishment on batters of up to 1:1.

Following the jute mat, the Lomandra hystrix were planted at intervals, every 75mm.

Locally-sourced mulch was then applied across the batters. Mulch has the advantage of providing additional erosion control, suppress weed growth and provide an attractive finish to the landscaped batters.
